We are three drops of blood from the queen's finger. She spilled us onto a white handkerchief and gave the cloth to her daughter. But her daughter didn't treasure her mother's blood! She has lost us now. She dropped the handkerchief into the river.
Sweeping and tumbling down the stream, we cling to our threads. But we will soon be washed away.
Why didn't she treasure her mother's blood? Now she has lost her power!
Three Drops of Blood on a Handkerchief in The Goose Girl, Grimms. Painting by Egon Schiele.
