I gave in to my wife’s demands. I could give you all sorts of excuses. I could say there was no point arguing with her. I could say that she forced me. Or that I was prepared to do anything to have peace in the house.
But nothing will excuse me for doing what I did. I covered my daughter in a horse-cloth and drove her out into the fields in the middle of winter. I left her out there to die, and drove home as fast I could.
I didn’t even say goodbye.
