Dying Indian Father

Themes: Death | Dread

Before I die, I can see everything as clearly as if my wife and children were all lit up by the full moon. I tell my wife that after eight moons have passed, she will die and follow me to the Isle of the Blessed.

I tell my two older children to look after their little brother and never forsake him, for he is not strong-minded and will not be able to look after himself. Yet I know that after my wife dies, the ingratitude and unkindness that I have left behind will lie in front of my children. They will abandon their little brother and leave him to the wolves.

I do not die in peace.
